The Communications Specialist is part of a talented team cultivating awareness of and support for the organization. This position is responsible for raising awareness about DAIS and its approaches to supporting survivors of domestic violence. The successful candidate will bring strong public relations skills, experience crafting audience-appropriate materials across formats (print, digital, social, video), a collaborative approach, and a strong desire to build relationships that will advance the organization’s mission.
- Communications
- Develop timelines, strategies and content for websites, e-communications and social media; deploy appropriately.
- Create strategies to optimize social media content to improve audience engagement.
- Manage contact database and segment distribution lists with targeted messaging.
- Brainstorm, facilitate, and implement creative ideas for raising awareness about service delivery and approach.
- Manage vendor and contract relationships.
- Public Relations & Brand Management
- Oversee development and production of materials to ensure consistency of message, positioning, and voice.
- Pitch stories, prepare official responses to domestic violence incidents, draft and disseminate news releases/alerts, and maintain marketing materials (promotional, outreach, media, etc.).
- Serve as spokesperson and support staff in responding appropriately to external requests for information.
- Development
- Support efforts to advance a culture of philanthropy throughout the organization; assist in the cultivation and stewardship of donors through customized correspondence.
- Collaborate across departments to garner interest and support through events and outreach, including support related to talking points, presentations, displays, flow, experience, and A/V.
- Develop compelling donor stewardship materials and communications, including but not limited to stewardship and impact reports, donor recognition, acknowledgment letters and calls, solicitation letters, proposals, donor testimonials, and email updates.
- Draft grant narratives, edits submissions, and proofreads applications and reports.
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in strategic communications, public relations, or communications is preferred though relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Minimum of three years of public relations or communications experience.
- Experience writing for various audiences, managing social media platforms, and advancing strategic communications plans.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience using Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress, and Google Analytics.
- Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
