Sojourner Family Peace Center (SFPC) employs dedicated, hardworking professionals who want to be of service to others and make a difference in Milwaukee and surrounding communities.
The Community Domestic Abuse Advocacy Program (CDAAP) works with clients whom have been referred by Milwaukee Police Department for follow-up support and services after a Domestic Violence incident has been reported. The High Risk advocate position takes on a client-base of survivors who need more than crisis response services. This advocate provides on-going support, case management, court support, referrals to community resources and more.
The candidate we seek must be comfortable in assisting survivors amidst a crisis, trauma and life altering events involving domestic violence, as well as addressing any identified safety concerns. Experience providing compassionate, non-judgmental care and support to people who may exhibit symptoms related to trauma, behavioral health illness and substance use is required. Must have the ability to calm in stressful circumstances, quickly build rapport with clients and also work well with SFPC staff and outside community partners.
Responsibilities
The CDAAP High Risk Advocate for the City of Milwaukee supports victims of domestic violence who have a high risk of violence and trauma reoccurring.
How will your days be spent?
-Conducting home visits with law enforcement.
-Connecting with clients to help develop a safety plan and access community resources, as well as offer information, support, education and other needed referrals and services.
-Responding to requests for support with clients from internal and external team members.
-Acting as a technical resource for the agency and coordinate and implement the dissemination of the program information.
-Working closely with key community partners, especially Milwaukee Police Department, to develop relationships and services to further the agency’s mission and goals.
-Provide community presentations and trainings on domestic abuse, agency services, and other related topics.
Qualifications

-Professionals who can remain calm and helpful when others are in crisis.
Requirements
-Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in social work, criminal justice, communication, human resources, or other related field.
-Bilingual in Spanish or Hmong a plus.
-Requires comprehensive knowledge of statutory framework for domestic abuse, harassment and child abuse injunctions, and knowledge of and experience with legal system, including prior work with victims, police, prosecutors, court commissioners and judges.
-Ability for flexible hours and an insured car with valid driver’s license.
