The Economic Advocate is part of a team of advocates who provide direct service to survivors of domestic abuse.  The role of the advocate is to empower individuals affected by domestic abuse by working with them to remove barriers to employment and connecting them to opportunities to become financially self-sustaining while maintaining safety.

Primary responsibilities

Essential Duties:

  • Meet one on one with adult survivors of domestic violence to assess and assist with barrier removal related to employment and education.
  • Maintain relationships with survivors to offer long-term job maintenance support.
  • Provide survivors with education, support, and referrals to other community agencies.
  • Develop other programs to increase program capacity.
  • Work with area employers to develop business partnerships that will expand employment opportunities for survivors of domestic abuse.

Qualifications

Competencies:

  • A resilient self-starter and relationship builder who can work independently and coordinate with a team.
  • Knowledge and understanding of issues and dynamics of domestic abuse and trauma informed care.
  • Ability to quickly establish rapport and build relationships with business leaders.
  • Cultural competence; ability to work well with diverse populations of adults of all ages.
  • The ability to be flexible within crisis situations and job duties.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and listening skills required.
  • Basic knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office Suite.

 

Education, Experience and Other Requirements:

  • Degree in human services related field or experience that would match those qualifications.
  • Preferable to have knowledge of agencies or collaborations within the community.
  • Experience supporting individuals with barriers to obtaining employment

Agency responsibilities

Full time (40 hours per week)
