SUMMARY: under the supervision of the Co-Directors of Prevention & Engagement, the Northern Region Youth Program Coordinator is a full‐time exempt position. The Northern Region Youth Program Coordinator is the primary point of contact and facilitator for those engaged in statewide youth leadership efforts to prevent gender-based violence. The Northern Region Youth Program Coordinator also serves as a liaison between the D2K Campaign and End Abuse’s prevention grantees, member agencies and other youth‐serving organizations, equipping these entities with the tools, resources and knowledge to successfully engage youth and amplify primary prevention efforts in Wisconsin.   

Primary responsibilities

 

Northern Region Statewide Leadership Program Primary Point Person 

In the summer of 2022, End Domestic Abuse Wisconsin will be launching a Statewide Youth Leadership Program in the Northern & Southern Region of WI. This program will engage up to 10 youth leaders per year per region and is geared toward youth ages 10 to 20 who are interested in promoting healing and healthy relationships and addressing conflict in non-violent ways. The Northern Region Youth Program Coordinator will serve as the primary point person and lead organizer and facilitator of Statewide Youth Leadership Program activities.   

  • Implement processes for screening Statewide Youth Leadership Program applicants and criteria for accepting these applicants into the program  
  • Co‐develop and implement workflows for sending Statewide Youth Leadership Program members resources and tools  
  • Respond to inquiries from Statewide Youth Leadership Program members, provide advice, encouragement and resources for their leadership and engagement in their communities   
  • Advise on the creation of additional resources to support the Statewide Youth Leadership Program  
  • Co-lead coordination to develop and implement policies, procedures and workflows for Statewide Youth Leadership Program members to be featured on the website and through social media or other avenues of public awareness and outreach 
  • With the Prevention and Engagement Team, determine how Statewide Youth Leadership Program members will interact with or participate on the Teen Council or other youth initiatives 
  • Participate with Teen Summit planning, especially as it relates to the participation of Statewide Youth Leadership Program members 

 

Support the implementation of the Dare2Know (D2K) Campaign and raise public awareness about the importance of healthy relationships and healing in Wisconsin 

  • Follow and share D2K social media content to engage audiences and raise awareness across Wisconsin on platforms such as FaceBook, SnapChat, Twitter, TikTok and Instagram 
  • Support with media inquiries and interview requests related to D2K or the Statewide Youth Leadership Program  
  • Collaborate with Teen Council Members to generate the creative direction for social media content and to co-create ideas for ongoing outreach on a monthly basis 
  • Coordinate and integrate the promotion of D2K at the Annual Teen Summit in collaboration with the Prevention & Engagement Team and Statewide Youth Leadership Program Members 
  • Maintain a keen understanding of trends affecting the movement to end teen dating violence and make appropriate recommendations regarding the communication strategy surrounding them 

 

Support other End Abuse Prevention and Youth Programming Efforts 

  • Collaborate with the End Domestic Abuse WI Prevention & Engagement Team and with other youth-serving organizations to engage in outreach and to change social norms and promote primary prevention efforts.  
  • Participate in the planning and execution of the Annual Teen Summit 
  • Support the Statewide Teen Council 
  • Attend staff meetings as necessary 

  

Other duties: Compile data; plan, carry out and coordinate project evaluation activities; submit timely data and reports to End Abuse’s database for grant reporting.  

  

Qualifications

Required  

  • An existing understanding of primary, secondary and tertiary prevention strategies for domestic, dating and sexual violence. Candidates should be familiar with promising practices related to engaging youth and primary prevention efforts.  
  • An existing understanding of, or be able to learn about, the movement to end violence against women/domestic violence, its history, philosophy and the impact of oppression on survivors, particularly on members of historically marginalized communities.  
  • Experience working with youth from underrepresented and/or underserved populations  
  • Experience and comfort with public speaking  
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Excellent organizational skills – ability to manage concurrent projects and meet deadlines 
  • Experience with social media platforms – excellent candidates will have a demonstrated ability to engage audiences through social media, particularly around social justice and/or violence prevention via platforms such as FaceBook, SnapChat, Twitter, TikTok and Instagram 
  • Proficient in the use of MS Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook, and ability to learn and utilize additional forms of technology preferred.  

 

Preferred  

  • Marketing and media relations experience.  
  • A history of working effectively on violence prevention and/or social justice with youth.  
  • Spanish or Hmong language fluency is a plus!

Work Environment and Physical Demands 

  • Work performed in an office setting or at a training requires the ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time. 
  • Ability to travel across the state requires a valid driver’s license, and proof of automobile insurance, which must be current and on file at all times. 
  • Ability to lift office supplies and materials on occasion for trainings less than 50 pounds. 
  • The person in this position must be able to exchange accurate information over the telephone, and/or online for virtual meetings and trainings.

COMPENSATION: 

 

This exempt position is budgeted at 30 hours a week or 1560 hours per year, hourly it starts at $22.84 per hour, and $35,360.40 annually, commensurate with experience. This position at 30 hours a week is eligible for all full-time benefits which include health insurance, dental insurance, life insurance, short-term and long-term disability coverage, an employee assistance program, a sabbatical program and generous paid vacation, holidays and sick leave, and an organization-sponsored 401(k) plan. PTO is adjusted accordingly for this position.
