Position Opening:  Prevention Outreach Specialist

Full-time, Non-exempt. Minimum wage of $15/hour, negotiable based upon experience and qualifications.

Prevention Outreach Specialists plan and implement education, training and prevention programming to increase awareness and knowledge of domestic violence issues, provide skills-based training to professionals who interact with survivors of domestic violence, and to promote primary prevention of dating, domestic and sexual violence. Specialists work with adults and youth as well as community groups and partner organizations throughout Dane County. The position is scheduled for standard daytime hours, though some evenings and weekends are necessary depending upon program needs. A driver’s license and access to a vehicle is required.

Primary responsibilities

  • Community Education
    • Plan, develop, and conduct presentations and interactive workshops for community partners such as school personnel, students, health care providers, faith-based organizations, businesses, and other stakeholders.
    • Collaborate with colleagues to plan and conduct advocacy training for staff and volunteers.
    • Identify opportunities to raise awareness about intimate partner violence and DAIS services.
  • Prevention Outreach
    • Coordinate, develop, and implement community-based primary prevention programming targeted at the prevention of dating, domestic, and sexual violence.
    • Develop and implement curriculum related to youth gender justice programming.
    • Manage and facilitate primary prevention programming with adolescents, including males.
    • Maintain and cultivate partnerships with key community stakeholders to implement community-based programming.
    • Infuse holistic and intersectional anti-violence paradigms into materials and efforts.
  • Reporting
    • Track performance outcomes for program evaluation, grant reporting, and public relations purposes.
    • Maintain database for tracking prevention and community education data.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

 

  • A four-year college or university degree is preferred though relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience developing curricula and presentation content.
  • Effective public speaking skills and experience utilizing multi-media presentation tools.
  • Experience in group facilitation and working with diverse populations strongly preferred.
  • Expertise in trauma, intimate partner violence, and/or gender justice desired.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish or English/Hmong) preferred.
  • Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
