Provide comfort, support and resources for residents and their children in our emergency domestic violence shelter.  Build community within our agency by modeling positive, nurturing interactions.  While assisting residents with their daily living needs and helping to connect them to resources in our community you will be part of the solution as they begin to rebuild their lives.  Will you be the person who helps to make a difference in the lives of our residents and ultimately in our community?

 

Position Opening:  SHELTER ADVOCATE

Variable Part-time – Primarily Overnight & Weekend hours available.

Starts at $16.00 per hour, $0.75 additional shift differential for overnight shifts

Primary responsibilities

About the Position:

  • Advocates work directly with our emergency shelter residents and their children.
  • Advocates provide emotional support, build community, and help connect residents to resources.
  • Advocates assist residents with daily living needs.
  • Advocates are a vital part of a vibrant team working together to support those who have experienced domestic violence.
  • Advocates make a difference in the lives of our residents and ultimately in our community.
  • This is an awake position. Current part-time needs are primarily for weekend shifts.  Limited weekday and holiday coverage is also needed.

Qualifications

Who are we looking for?

  • High school, or equivalent, graduates.
  • Prefer two years of experience working with trauma survivors.
  • Experience in a residential setting and crisis intervention is also preferred.
  • Knowledge of domestic violence issues and bilingual abilities are beneficial.
