Primary responsibilities

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Shelter Coordination
• Responsible for the accomplishment of shelter outcomes and goals and objectives as outlined in funding source documents.
• Maintain an atmosphere of empathy and individual choices for shelter residents. Assist with issues related to communal living.
• Provide sensitive services to the following special population survivors, as appropriate to program’s service area:
 Older victims of domestic abuse
 LGBT victims
 Native American victims
 Hmong/Southeast Asian victims
 Hispanic victims
 Other racial/ethnic groups
 Victims with disabilities
• Ensure facility and equipment are maintained, clean and safe.
• Collect and maintain required statistical and demographic information and document services provided for reporting purposes. Complete reports to funders as requested.
• Oversee the process for dissemination of the shelter evaluation tool which assesses the effectiveness of services and identifies unmet/emerging needs.
• May supervise Shelter Advocates and/or other staff.
• Maintain and ensure shelter staff follows state and federal confidentiality laws, as outlined in the agency’s confidentiality policy.
• Keep staff informed of client status and provide case summaries at staff meetings.
• Collaborate with staff in facilitating resident house meetings.
• Represent Family Center on committees and task forces, as assigned, to provide a domestic violence/sexual assault victim perspective and to raise awareness of agency services.
• Provide training and resources to interns, volunteers and staff working in shelter.
• Ensure participation in the HUD Point in Time count twice annually.
Case Management
Working as a team, provide case management to adult victims of abuse to Family Center shelter clients.
• Assist shelter residents in developing a plan that addresses their self-identified needs.
• Provide clients with community resource information to address needs identified in their plan and advocate with other agencies on their behalf
• Continually follow up with clients to ensure their needs are being met and to support their progress.
• Provide follow-up to maintain contact and provide the necessary support for the client post-shelter.
• Assist clients with restraining orders and provide advocacy in obtaining them through the legal system.

Advocacy
• Provide non-judgmental, empathetic counseling to all the clients and their family members; offering problem solving techniques and referrals and addressing abuse issues and related concerns.
• Maintain a professional, confidential relationship with all clients.
• Use a trauma-informed, person-centered approach to promote healing from abuse
Transitional Services
• Collaborate with area resources/agencies relevant to issues facing victims of abuse as they transition out of the abusive relationship and shelter.
• Maintain a current resource manual of community resources for use by staff and clients.
• Provide educational classes that enhance resident’s ability to become self-sufficient.

General
• Maintain a professional, confidential, non-judgmental, individualized relationship with all clients.
• Interact in a professional, cooperative manner with other staff and volunteers.
• Attendance and participation is required at all staff meetings.
• Complete tasks as assigned by your supervisor and the Executive Director the time frame established.
• Participate in promoting the Family Center through community education and public relation efforts.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience desired
  • 1 year supervisory or management experience
  • Understanding of domestic and sexual abuse dynamics
  • Understanding of trauma-informed practices
  • Good communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a team
  • Possess strong team leadership skills
  • Understanding of Microsoft Office
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Strong ability to be non-judgmental and flexible and ability to work with people from diverse cultural, racial, socio-economic and lifestyle backgrounds
  • Dependable, strong work ethic
  • Have and maintain a safe driving record and valid driver’s license
  • Ability to maintain confidential counseling and advocacy relationship
  • Good conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to handle crisis situations in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to represent The Family Center in a professional manner
  • Good active listening skills
