Primary responsibilities
1.Provides direct services to crime victims and their families and facilitates continuity of care referrals for those impacted by serious crime.
2. Attends court hearings, medical appointments, law enforcement interviews, forensic exams and other meetings, to provide mental, physical, financial, social, emotional or spiritual support to victims.
3. Maintains linkage with and works in collaboration with Gundersen staff and departments to help ensure continuity of trauma-informed care and referral coordination.
4. Depending on program and in accordance with requirements of grant funding, provides empowerment-based criminal justice advocacy services including but not limited to restraining order applications, court hearing accompaniment, compensation applications and notification of information on the criminal justice process.
5. Maintains linkage with and works in collaboration with community-based agencies and professionals including but not limited to law enforcement, District Attorney’s office, health systems, community-based advocacy agencies and resource agencies.
6. Participates in the department case review process to continuously improve services and the health and safety of those served.
7. Participates in the development and delivery of educational programs for primary and secondary victims, GHS staff and the community. Acts as an expert in their field for policy and screening creation, education and awareness of crime and abuse, and trauma-informed care delivery. Conducts training for GHS staff relating to screening and identifying victims of crime, appropriate documentation and reporting of crime according to GHS policies and procedures and providing patients with empowerment-based referrals to services.
8. Intervenes with creditors, landlords and employers on behalf of, and with the consent of, victims.
9. Collects and documents statistical data on cases an develops reports required to be maintained by GHS and the grant funding; with assistance from administrative staff reports to appropriate federal and/or state regulatory agencies; presents reports to colleagues, management, and leadership for identification of problem areas.
10. Develops and facilitates support groups as needed.
11. Performs other job-related responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Learning:
REQUIRED
Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or Criminal Justice or Public Health or Community Health or Nursing or other helping professional degree
DESIRED
Master’s degree in Social Work or Counseling or Criminal Justice or Public Health or Community Health or other helping professional degree and Domestic Violence or Sexual Assault Advocacy Training
Work Experience:
REQUIRED
2 years of experience in human services, case management, mental health counseling, criminal justice or related helping profession or 2 to 5 years of experience in victim/domestic violence/sexual assault advocacy at a local or state level
DESIRED
5-7 years of experience in human services, case management, mental health counseling, criminal justice or related helping profession. 5-10 years of experience in victim/domestic violence/sexual assault advocacy at a local or state level
License and Certifications:
DESIRED License Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Advanced Practice Social Worker (APSW), Community Health Education Specialist (CHES)
