Volunteer Coordinator

Employer: Harbor House Domestic Abuse Programs

Primary responsibilities

Essential Duties:

  • Lead the recruiting, screening, interviewing and training of new volunteers
  • Review organizational needs and assign appropriate volunteers, in consultation with program or event staff
  • Track volunteer hours and maintain volunteer database
  • Attend staff meetings and assist in the evaluation of the program
  • Motivate and encourage volunteers to remain focused in their work and to do their best
  • Assist with shelter and helpline coverage

Qualifications

Competencies:

  • Ability to multitask; must be detail-oriented and organized
  • Ability to give engaging presentations
  • Good networking and socializing skills
  • The ability to work cooperatively with different types of personalities
  • Basic knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge and understanding of issues and dynamics of domestic abuse
  • Ability to always lead by example

Education, Experience and Other Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in non-profit management, business management, communication, or social service-related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Positive, enthusiastic attitude, team work ability and leadership qualities
  • The ability to communicate with, supervise and empower volunteers to be effective in their roles
  • Experience working with volunteers preferred but not required

Agency responsibilities

Full time (40 hours per week); some evening and weekend hours required
